CSD - Oscar Edition

Last night's Oscars were pretty much predictable, (Although The King's Speech taking home the biggie over The Social Network was kind of a shock) but the whole time my pop culture addled brain was completely thrown off, I will give you a glimpse into the confusion...

As the night kicked off and Mia Thermopolis and Harry Osbourne led us through the night's best picture nominees,I giggled a few times. It wasn't Oscar's best opening sequence, but it wasn't terrible either.

As the night continued on I couldn't put my finger on things, like why was Jackie Burkhart presenting an animation award with the guy from "D**ck in a Box?" And how did Princess Giselle lose yet another Oscar? She's been nominated every year pretty much...

Then some writer won for Best Adapted screen play and gave a speech that sounded exactly like something President Bartlett would reassure the nation with and I felt like I was going crazy! And everyone kept showing shots of Bellatrix LeStrange and I was thinking "OMG! Why hasn't anyone captured her?" Viola De Lesseps sang a country song.

Finally Jack Kelly won an Oscar and then later Padme Amidala got up there and she was pregnant, and I was all..."But you already had the twins!" and then to top it all off Mr. Darcy got up on stage and made the whole ballroom fall in love with him.

Learn more about it here, and please, spread awareness and if there is a pop culture addict in your life, give them a good shake and tell them that it's not real. These people are just actors. Just actors...

Emmy Night

The Emmys just ended.

Winners were about what you'd expect. (Mad Men, 30 Rock, Daily Show and acting legends.) Neil Patrick Harris's hosting was perfect. He was exactly that, a host. He did his little bit at the beginning and then just moved the action along. Dr. Horrible, Captain Hammer and the rest of the gang did hijack the broadcast for a minute or two. Good stuff from Neil there, great stuff from Nathan Fillion (after all, he's better, better than Neil, just ask him, he'll sing you a whole song about it) and lovely harmony by Felicia Day.

The greatest moment of my life happened when David Boreonaz and Steven Moyer presented together, and then I was quickly let down, when the stupid Emmy writers didn't give them a vampire joke (although looking back I think there may have been a "sink your teeth into" phrase, but I might just be projecting.) But still Angel and Bill together? Can I get one big giant fangirl SQUEE! (My roommate was already asleep so I had to only virtually squee!)

The "who we lost this year" tribute was very nice, accompanied by a live performance by Sarah McLaughlin. It really was quite a year. Lots of celebrities died.

Tonight

The Tonys are rarely surprising. I love them, but they might be the single most predictable award show on TV. This year wasn't different. Hair, Billy Elliot and Next To Normal dominated.

The awards are secondary at the Tonys, what they're really meant to be is a commercial for Broadway. And they didn't fail in that. I was sitting with my friends watching and we wanted to see every single show nominated. Of course we're unable to afford to go see every show, but it was still unbelievable.

Neil Patrick Harris hosted, in a leather suit, but you know, he's gay, it's the Tonys, it's totally allowed.

He summed up the whole thing very well in his final number.

"This show couldn't be any gayer if Liza was made mayor and Elton John took flight..." (it was a Wierd Al-ized version of "Tonight" from West Side Story)

OMG LOOKS SO EFFING GOOD!

So I'm finally watching my DVR'd MTV movie awards, and I have to say, it's been a long time since I watched an MTV awards show...I forgot what a joy they are to watch, so silly and out there and enjoyable.

Twilight cleaned up...mostly I would bet because the MTV Movie Awards are fan voted, and Twilight fans are NUTS (I can attest, I am one of them).

I was watching pretty much for the New Moon preview, I'm not going to lie. It did not disappoint. Check it out.



Ok, so that wasn't really it, that was Andy Samberg mocking it, but it was damn funny. The actual trailer was great too.



Damn does Jacob look fine! Anyway, it looks way better than Twilight did, what with all the bright colors and formalwear. LOL, what do you guys think?

The awards were given, Eminem threw a fit (I love the guy's music, really, but he has got to learn to take a joke!) The Ben Stiller tribute was hilarious, I really hope Triumph makes it to The Tonight Show. Denzel presented with his daughter...Miley won best song, I really liked the whole show. Keep it up MTV, keep the fun coming, representing the people's voice!

Emmys!

I love award shows. I really do. The fancy clothes, the self indulgent speeches, the random musical numbers, the forced witty banter. And on that note, this years Emmys did not disappoint. The clothes were mostly good...America Ferrera had a rare and unfortunate misfire. Eva Longoria gets my best dressed, Hayden after that, then Kate Walsh. Tina Fey won 4 Emmys last night! YAY Tina Fey!!!

The 5 hosts, Tom Bergeron, Ryan Suckcrest, Jeff Probst, Howie Mandel and of course Heidi! I have to say the opening bit, Bergeron and William Shatner ripping off Heidi's clothes couldn't have been funnier.

The highlights though.

Obviously anything with the Daily Show guys, both winners. Colbert won for writing Stewart for hosting. Their presentation was funny...not allowed to make any statements, Colbert pulled out a bag of prunes and was talking about how "America needs a prune!" Get it? Then Ricky Gervais demanding that Steve Carrell return his Emmy from last year. "Look at him. Look at his stupid face." President Bartlett addressing the nation once again, urging us to vote and then introducing The President of The Academy. And the best moment of the whole night Josh Groban sings your favorite TV themes.


Like I said, I'm really excited that Tina Fey won all those Emmys, and 30 Rock won even more, but I'm not so thrilled that as a result of this a certain blonde haired um, "actress" who I graduated high school with got loads of face time. ICK.

Anyway, it was a good telecast.

Heroes premiere tonight! YAY!
